Obituary of Mary Hogan - New Waterford/Ontario

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Mary Margaret Hogan (MacGillivray) on March 16th, 2024. Mary passed away at Fosterbrooke Long Term Care Home surrounded by family. Mary was born in Lingan, Nova Scotia. She was a devoted Catholic who always found comfort in her religion. Mary was the daughter of the late Daniel Thomas and Mary Margaret (Young) MacGillivray.

Mary was a very loving mother and her family was her pride and joy; her everything. Mary looked forward to daily phone conversations with her children. She also enjoyed family visits and a good meal. One of her favourite meals when getting together with family was an outing to the nearest Swiss Chalet for a hot sandwich and baked potato. She also enjoyed our family dinners which always included spaghetti and meatballs. Mary had many hobbies which included camping and the outdoors. She loved sitting outside watching the birds. She also enjoyed making new friends at the nursing home. She was loved by many and touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Mary was survived by her children, Jerry (Thelma), New Waterford, Wendy (Glenn) Edelenbos, Prime Brook, Cindy (Junior) MacKinnon, Neil’s Harbour, Christine (Troy) Williamson, Brampton; brothers, Bobby (Annette), Glace Bay, Mike (Heather), Dominion, John (Claire) Cole Harbour; sisters, Barbara MacGillivray, Lingan, Theresa (Peter) MacInnis, Coxheath, Ann (Ray) Dimock, Dartmouth.

Mary will be missed by her grandchildren; Christopher, Crystal, Brittany, Nathan and Owen; great-grandchildren, Andie, Amelia and Ryder and her many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased two brothers, Daniel and Alex as well as one sister, Catherine and three siblings in infancy. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the amazing staff at Fosterbrooke Long Term Care Home where Mary had resided for the past decade. She also greatly adored her roommate Sherree. You were all a blessing at this difficult time.

As per Mary’s wishes, aquamation has taken place under the care of Newcastle Funeral Home in Ontario. There will be a memorial mass in honour of Mary at a later date and funeral arrangements will be under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford, Nova Scotia.
