Obituary of James Rupert (Jimmie) 'Norton' Newman, New Waterford

It is with saddened, but full and thankful hearts, that we announce the peaceful passing of Jimmie Newman, age 71 of New Waterford at home on Friday, March 22^nd, 2024 at 11:11 am with his wife Lynn (Nemis) by his side. Lynn was his fulltime caregiver.

Born in New Waterford, Jimmie was the son of the late Rupert and Margaret (Bonnar) Newman and son-in-law of the late James “Cookie” and Catherine (MacDonald) Nemis.

Jimmie is survived by his wife of 41 years, the love of his life, Lynn Nemis, son, Rickie and daughter, Anita.

Jimmie will also be greatly missed by his brother, Robert (Brenda), sisters, Darlene (Blaise), Elizabeth and Barbara, sister-in-law, Anna Nemis and his brother-in-law, Colin “Nick” Nemis.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Emmanuel Aujwon and the Palliative Care Unit.

Memorial donations in memory of Jimmie may be made to the Palliative Care Unit (Cape Breton Regional Hospital) or the Sydney S.P.C.A.

As per Jimmie’s request, cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
