Obituary of Stanley "Wick" Michalik, Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Stanley John Michalik, age 83, known as Wick among those closest to him on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Stan was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Wick was proud of his Polish heritage and known for his boundless energy, happiness and enthusiasm that touched the lives of everyone who knew him or met him. He had a positive attitude and provided his family with love and support. He did everything he could to make sure his loved ones were taken care of.
After retirement from the coal mines, Wick began to live the life he loved, as a well-known "dancing" DJ, playing dances and weddings, until age 75. He was a talented musician, playing drums, piano and saxophone. Throughout his life he was in several bands with family and friends. Most recently playing at long term care homes and local legions; bringing music, fun, and laughs. Wick loved to tell jokes, dance, and be silly.
In his younger years, Wick played and coached baseball and practiced Uechi-Ryu Karate. He enjoying watching wrestling, baseball and hockey. He stayed active, traveled and loved his daily walks and trips to the Casino. Stan was a devoted parishioner of Holy Cross Church, which he attended all his life.
He will be missed and forever remembered by his children, Nancy, Stanley, Todd and Heather (Condo); his 9 grandchildren and his great grandchildren who loved spending time with their Jaju. He also leaves behind his siblings Angela, Martha, Walter and Mary; many nieces and nephews and his late partner's (Florence) family, who he was very close to.
Stan is predeceased by his parents, Stanley & Angela Michalik, his wife Shirley Michalik (Clarke), partner Florence Breski and sister Sophie Jones (Michalik).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 at 11 am in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. The reception is in the church hall.
Thank you to Father Murphy, Father MacPhee and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
