Obituary of John Roderick McIntyre, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John R. McIntyre, age 71, peacefully on Sunday April 28, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael and Violet (Chant) McIntyre.

John R. was a lifetime resident of Reserve Mines and served many years working at the Branch 2 Legion.

Besides his parents, John R. was predeceased by his brothers, Calder, Raymond, and Michael; sisters, Gerarda and Miriam and nephew, Bernard.

John R. is survived by a sister, Donna (Frank) VanDenBroek and nephew, Barry, who took care of him for years. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

Cremation will take place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. There will be a private family internment at a later date.

We, the family, would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and EMT respondents for their care and compassion. Thanks to the oncology department for the care, he received over the last years. We would also like to thank the Cape Breton County Homemakers Agency and those who came to his home to attend to his care.
