Obituary of Joan Marie Smith, Reserve Mines
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Joan Smith, announce her sudden passing on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the age of 78 years. Born in Reserve Mines, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Veronica (McNeil) Stubbard.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Joe; sons, Leonard (Patti), Halifax, Trevor (Sheila), Cabot Trail, Gary (Darlene), Reserve Mines, Darrin (Patti), Truro; sisters, Florence, Alberta, Agnes (Dan) Hamilton; stepsister Marge, New Waterford; brother Raymond, Dominion; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Tanya; sisters, Mary and Theresa; brothers, Arthur, Peter and Simon; stepsisters, Jenny and Thelma; stepbrothers, Patrick and John.
As a member of the Reserve Mines Pensioner’s Club and the lady’s auxiliary, she enjoyed many fun evenings and smiles with other members. BINGO, something she rarely got to yell was always enjoyed with her bingo buddy, Charlene. She also enjoyed Sunday night darts, predicting which inning of the Blue Jays would implode, and most of all, keeping in touch with family and friends on lengthy phone calls.
She will be missed and forever remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, where visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and from where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau. A reception will follow in the reception room. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Reserve Mines.
