I send our deepest condolences to the family of Irene. She was a wonderful lady. Had many conversations with her when she came to Purolator to send off care packages. She usually had fudge squares as a treat fior us.
You met her once and she never forgot you. Rest in peace Irene. You are soaring with the angels. She will be missed by her loved ones.

Thoughts and prayers are with you. Aunt Irene was an amazing lady who was always so kind to me while growing up. Later in life when I had my own child, she continued with her kindness to the extent that she would bake squares and send them by Priority Post so that my child could enjoy fresh baking. She will be missed.

To Members of the MacMillan Family,
Deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear Mother Irene. She was a beautiful, kind, loving and caring human being who manifested these virtues in her interactions with others. Once you met Irene you were instantly touched by her warmth and kindness. I met Irene when we served together on the Board of the Registered Nurses Association of Nova Scotia (known then as RNANS). Irene was a wonderful nurse leader and an exemplary role model for others. She personified the values of professional nursing and always worked to help others feel welcome and secure. She was an ardent supporter of higher education for nurses and worked with us in the StFXU School of Nursing to establish a local Learning Resource Centres in New Waterford to make distance education available to nurses in Cape Breton through the Post RN BScN Program at StFX. On a personal level, Irene reached out to me when my Dad passed away, having her son Pat drive her into Sydney to visit my Mother and bring her a pan of delicious home made squares when she read his Obituary. I was so touched by this gesture of kindness given that Irene did not know my Mother or Father. This act of kindness and compassion is an example of the thoughtful and loving person your Mother was, always manifesting goodness and lifting others up. May you be sustained by your many, many warm memories of your Mother. She truly was a special lady. She is at peace now in her eternal home.
Sincerely, Angela Gillis

My condolences to Irene's family. She was such a gem. I didn't know her for very long but would see her in Mass and she always stopped and said hello. The last time I saw her was at the hair salon (maybe 6 months ago) and she was so sharp. She could certainly carry a great conversation. RIP Irene. You were one of a kind. God Bless.

To the MacMillan Family,
New Waterford Consolidated Hospital was a special community that I was lucky to be part of for a few years. This group was made up of special people who cared for one another. What a wonderful lady and what a wonderful life. Irene had such a good heart and such an optimistic outlook on life, it was always a joy to be in her company. Her fudge squares arrived on Duggan Avenue with regularity in Mike and Doris’s later years, and were enjoyed by all of us! We remember Irene with fondness and appreciation for the special person she was, and give a nod to celebrate a life well-lived.

Agnes and the MacMillan family,
I am happy to learn of the wonderful, successful life enjoyed by Irene. I , also, was born and raised in Florence. I attended school with Freda and Billy. Mrs. Herve visited my home after I married. The Herve’s were well respected by our community.
God Bless,
Anne ( MacNeil) MacDonald.
