Obituary of Evelyn Mary (Brown) Odo, New Waterford
It is with great sadness, the family of Evelyn Mary (Brown) Odo, age 67 of New Waterford announce her peaceful passing on August 9, 2024 at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay surrounded by her loving family and friends after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in New Waterford on October 7, 1956 to the late Clifton and Martha Brown.
Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband of 31 years, Murdock Odo. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Frank Bernard in infancy, James (Jimmy) Brown, and sisters, Ella, Sheila and Eileen Brown.
Evelyn is survived by her loving daughter, Theresa, son, Wayne (Alicia) and her granddaughter, Emily who was always by her side and will miss her dearly.
She is also survived by her brother, Frank Brown (Alice), numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. Evelyn will always be remembered for her loving smile, kind heart and the unending love she showed in raising her family. She loved travelling throughout Cape Breton and spending family vacations in Cheticamp in her younger years.
Evelyn was always ready for a game of cards with her family. She enjoyed simple things and found joy in spending time with loved ones and friends throughout the years. Evelyn faced many hardships throughout her decades long battle with Multiple Sclerosis but maintained a positive and hopeful attitude no matter her circumstance. She faced adversity with bravery and courage.
As a result of her illness, she spent the last two years as a resident in Taigh Na Mara surrounded by loving and supportive staff who considered her one of their own. Their kindness and compassion toward mom will always be remembered. It has been a rough year for the family. Thank you for making it a little easier. We will be forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 14th at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception, all taking place in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Everyone is welcome to attend. Fr. Godwin Obike presiding.
Afterward, she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in Forest Haven Cemetery. Donations in Evelyn’s name can be made to the MS Society of Canada or a charity of one’s choice.
