Obituary of Joanne MacQueen, New Waterford
It is with profound sadness that the family of Joanne MacQueen, age 71, of New Waterford wishes to announce her peaceful passing on August 14th, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Joanne was the daughter of the late Jack and Roseanne Walsh. She was born in New Waterford and lived her entire life in the place she loved.
She is predeceased by her husband, Junior; her brothers, Mickey and Archie; her sisters, Rosey and Wilfredine; her nephew, Michael; brothers-in-law, Stewart, Dennis, Carson, John Blair, Frankie and her best friend, Verne.
She is survived by her children, Chris (Renata), Tracey (Shawn); her grandchildren, Katelynn (Matt), Matthew, Emily, Christopher, Loagen and Shyanne; her sisters, Eileen (Cecil), Jackie (Peter), Mary Liz, Lucy (Bob); her brother, Danny (Sue); sisters-in-law, Margie, Lynda, Brenda, Gail (Tommy); brother-in-law, Wayne as well as her precious nieces and nephews.
She will be fondly remembered for her infectious smile, kind heartedness towards so many, her trusting spirit and her abiding love for her family and special friends, Shelley, Helena, Betty and so many, many more. Joanne was an avid, dare we say, wicked card player, be it tarabish, scat or her poker club, a competitive dart player and a novice viedographer/camera buff; she could put Kenny Kodak to shame! She loved old music, dancing, her beautiful garden and the lasting friendships she made from her time working at the Maple Hill Manor.
We wish to acknowledge and thank the staff of New Waterford Hospital medical floor, the VON nurses, the Palliative Care nurses and physicians for their outstanding care. Heartfelt thanks to her granddaughter, Katelynn MacQueen, RN who was such a great comfort to her Gramma as well. A very special thank you to Dr. Jennifer Lange for her exceptional care and compassion during Joanne's illness and her final days. We will be forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Jim Oliver officiating. A reception will follow at the K.O.C. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton, VON or Maple Hill Manor. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
