Obituary of Raymond (Ray) Douglas Purdy, River Ryan
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Raymond “Ray” Purdy, age 80 on Friday, August 16th, 2024 at his residence in River Ryan surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born in New Waterford the son of the late Harold & Sadie (Ritchie) Purdy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Diane (MacDonald) Purdy, son, Curtis and his sister, Elsie Wilkie.
Ray was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and James.
Ray was an electrician and worked for many years in construction and later with the Cape Breton Regional District School Board. Ray loved his trade and worked helping friends and family well into his seventies. He loved to travel and spent many years traveling in his motor home throughout Canada & USA with his family. Ray also visited England, Italy, Paris and other parts of Europe. He will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others.
Upon retirement, his happy place was Annapolis Valley where his family spent many months each year and made many friends.
A very special thank you to my sister, Cheryl Clark for being by my side throughout this difficult time. I also want to thank the palliative care team and the VON staff who went above and beyond in caring for Ray and for the many hugs I received and encouragement.
In keeping with Ray’s wishes there will be no funeral service or visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford.
