Obituary of Ronald Frederick Challner
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Frederick Challner at the age of 67. Ron passed away peacefully on January 20, 2017, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in Boissevain, MB, August 8, 1949, he was the son of the late Albert and Florence Challner and was the youngest of their 9 children.
Ron served our country for 30 years in the Canadian Air Force. Always full of energy, he was always eager to help neighbours with any projects they needed done around their home. He enjoyed watching movies especially westerns, reading, playing cards, fishing, woodworking and being at his campsite at Lake-O-Law on the Cabot Trail. He truly enjoyed spending time with people, especially his friends Brian McKay, Steve and Jean MacLean and Ross and Jo Ann Hayward.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Judy (Mercer); son Shawn (Stacey);daughter Ashley (Daniel); brothers Don, Bill, George, Tom; sisters Shirley, Louise,Marilyn, Norma. He will also be sadly missed by his cherished grandchildren Kaylam and Lexi; father in-law Louis Mercer; sisters in-law Valerie Mercer, Darlene Tucker; brother in-law Johnny Mercer as well as several nieces, nephews and friends
Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his mother in-law Juliana Mercer (Tabensky) and brother in-law Gary Mercer.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford.
The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Duncan Roach, will be celebrated 11am Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown.
At this time, we would like to thank Dr. Littlejohn, Dr. Saliba, staff at the Cape BretonRegional Hospital Cancer Center, VON, and the staff at New Waterford ConsolidatedHospital. Ron received great care and attention during his short, but courageous battle.
