Obituary of Honora "Nonie" (Brann)MacDonald, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our Mom, Nonie MacDonald, age 98 of Glace Bay. Mom passed away at home, in Victoria Haven Nursing Home on September 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Glace Bay, Mom was the eldest daughter of John and Sarah (Campbell) Brann. She was a long-time employee of People’s Department Store, Glace Bay, until her retirement.

A devote member of St Anne’s Parish, she was actively involved in the Church. Mom also enjoyed her weekly aerobic classes, taking long walks with friends and always having a supply of baked goods in her freezer for family and friends.

Mom is survived by her daughters, Gen (Tommy Murray), Anne (D’Arcy Melnick) and Kathy (Rick Shaw), grandchildren, Tanya (John Glenn MacIntosh), Stephen Murray, Todd Melnick (Carrie), Aaron Melnick (Ami), Colin Shaw (Shauna) and Anita Keefe (Jeffrey).

Mom is also survived by her great grandchildren, Matthew and Garrett MacIntosh, Nathan, Sarah and Evan Murray, Jay and Zoe Melnick, Carter and Spencer Melnick, Lucas and Emery Shaw, Grace, Sophia and Tyler Keefe as well as her brother, Robert Brann and sister Mary Currie.

Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by our Dad, Bernie, sister, Dolly Allen, brothers, Al, John and Naish Brann.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory our Mom may be made to a Charity of one’s choice.

To the Staff of Victoria Haven, thank you for your kind and loving care of our Mom. We will be forever grateful!

Visitation is Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 11 am to 12:40 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay followed by the funeral mass at 1 pm in St. Anne's Church. A reception will take place in the church. Interment in the parish cemetery. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.
