Obituary of Grace Elizabeth "Betty" Bauman, Glace Bay
Grace Elizabeth "Betty" Bauman, age 90 of Glace Bay passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Albert & Winnifred Beatrice (Lane) Walker.
Betty worked as a waitress in Ontario and eventually ended up owning and operating two of her own restaurants. She was a long-standing member of Sydney Women’s Support Club. Betty loved to sew, make quilts and crafts, often selling them at local fairs.
She was a very compassionate lady who volunteered with Drug Awareness programs and was always donating to charities and food banks. Betty made ribbons for the war in Ukraine and was also constantly cooking for neighbors and friends.
Betty is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Wright (Ron), Joann Martin, Nancy Martin (Charles), one sister, Shirley Smith, two grandchildren, Sean Martin (Amber), Amanda (Martin) Munro (Casey), six great grandchildren and 1 great, great, granddaughter.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Henry William Martin, brothers, Ronald, William, Charles, Douglas, Albert and her sister, Phyllis (Walker) Wyld.
Special thank you to her cousins, Laurie MacDonald, Mike Legnaro, nephew, Doug Walker, best friend, Donna Hannem, granddaughter, Amanda Munro (Casey) and the staff at New Waterford Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26th, 2024 from 2-4 pm only in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 27 at 10 am in St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception then interment in the parish cemetery. Fr. Macleen Anyanwu presiding.
Memorial donations in memory of Betty may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
