Obituary of Catherine "Cathy" MacDonald, Glace Bay
It is with deep sadness, that we, the family, announce the passing of Catherine “Cathy” MacDonald, age 69 of Glace Bay on Friday, October 4th, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, Cathy was the daughter of the late Herbert & Olive (Henderson) Martell.
Cathy retired as an office administrator with New Waterford Homecare. She was an active member of the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd in Dominion as well as an active member of the Cursillo movement.
Cathy loved sewing, quilting, rug hooking, crafts of any kind and playing cards. She loved being a mother and grandmother. Cathy saw the beauty in everything and everyone. She will be remembered as a kind, caring and selfless person, always ready to help in any situation. A quiet lady by nature, she will also be remembered for her unique and dry sense of humour.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband, William “Billy” MacDonald, sons, Mark (Hannah), Whitney, England, Paul (Nadia), Edmonton and one daughter, Michelle (Doug) Isenor, Kitchener, ON.
Also surviving are four sisters, Corliss (Tom) Troy, Fran (Ray) MacDonald, Debbie (Brian) Martell, Carol (Francis) MacLellan, five grandchildren whom she adored, Clark, Sophia, Layla, Myles, Mason and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her brother, David Martell, sisters in law, Joan Martell and Lorraine Fanson.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9th in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay from 2-4, 7-9 pm.
The funeral service officiated by Cathy’s cousin, Anglican Minister, Rev. Tommy Henderson will take place in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport on Thursday at 11 am followed by interment in the parish cemetery. The reception will take place in the lower level of Church of the Good Shepherd, Dominion.
