Obituary of Clarence Routledge, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Clarence Routledge, age 76 of Glace Bay on Friday, October 18th, 2024 in Cape Breton Hospice, Membertou.

Born in Glace Bay, Clarence was the son of the late Clarence and Rita (MacLeod) Routledge.

Clarence had a wide variety of occupations throughout the years, but his true passion was politics. From being a councillor to sitting on numerous boards and everything in between. He prided himself on helping people and lending a hand whenever needed. Everyone knew they could count on Clarence and he will be missed by many.

Clarence looked forward to spending his summers with family and friends on the Mira. You’d know a fun afternoon was coming when you heard an enthusiastic, “We’reeee going!”, from Clarence. Which was always followed by a night with many laughs around the bonfire.

One of his greatest joys was driving his grandkids to and from school. He always loved their little chats.

Clarence was predeceased by his first wife, Donna (Clarke) Routledge. He is survived by his second wife, Deborah (Hall) Routledge, his children, Tanya (Sheldon), Scott (Cheryl), step-children, Marissa (Tylor), Devon (Ian), brother, Todd (Sue), grandchildren, Emilie, Alexis, Jeffery, Evelyn, Chloe, Parker, Madison, Charlee and Bauer.

Besides his parents and first wife, Clarence was predeceased by his son, Christopher (Nadine) and his sister, Linda.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25th, 2024 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 26th at 11 am in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.

A special thank you to Cape Breton Hospice and Palliative Care for your kindness and compassion.
