Obituary of Martin Wallace MacPhee CD, New Victoria
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Martin MacPhee CD, age 71 of New Victoria on November 13th, 2024.
Martin was the son of the late Douglas and Hannah (Gaulton) MacPhee.
As a young teen, Martin joined the 587 Whitney Pier Air Cadets. He returned to the air cadet program as a member of the CIL Air Force Reserve and rose to the rank of Captain. He often talked of all his adventures with the cadets and the many lifelong friends he made.
Martin became a Chemical Technician and went to work with Nova Scotia Power where he retired from after 42 years. Later he became a safety officer and worked summers doing that for the company when needed. He was a proud member of the IBEW Local 1928 serving in various executive positions.
Martin is survived by his common law wife of 25 years, Kathleen (Kay Head) McPhee, daughter, Crystal Gatza (Mario) of Calgary, Alberta, son, Christopher (Jill) Gatza of New Waterford and two stepdaughters along with their families.
Also surviving is his brother, Bill (Debbie) MacPhee, sisters, Margie (Lorway) Vardy, Liz (Hughie) MacLean, sisters-in-law, Linda MacPhee and Catherine MacPhee along with many nieces, nephews and many family and friends.
Martin was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Charles, John, Gerard, Edward and sister-in-law, Judith.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22nd from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. followed by a reception, all taking place in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Fr. Godwin Obike presiding. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, New Victoria.
