Obituary of Catherine Isabel (Kaye) MacQuarrie, New Waterford
The family of Catherine (Kaye) Isabel MacQuarrie is sad to announce her passing on November 30th, 2024.
She was a daughter of Edward and Mae (MacKinnon) MacQuarrie. Kaye remained in New Waterford through her youth and spent most of her adult life in Montreal with her sisters, Willena and Sadie. Kaye worked for Canadian Aviation Electronics (CAE) for more than 40 years. After her retirement, Kaye moved home to New Waterford in 2009 with her sisters.
Kaye was a passionate sports enthusiast, as a participant, coach and fan. In her youth, she played volleyball and softball and was inducted into the New Waterford Sports Hall of Fame. When Kaye moved to Montreal, she was instrumental in the establishment of a women's softball league, eventually becoming the league President. As a player in the league, Kaye played the positions of outfielder and catcher. Kaye was a devoted fan of the Montreal Expos, LA Dodgers, Detroit Red Wings, and the Boston Celtics.
She is survived by her sister, Sadie, New Waterford; brother, Tom (Yvonne), Winnipeg; sister-in-law, Carole, Mississauga; brother-in-law, Jim, Carver, MA. Kaye is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including her godchildren, Glenn MacLean and Sandra Keefe. Kaye was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Mary, John, Margaret, Greg, Don, Eddie, Anna, Bernice and Willena.
Sadie would like to extend special thanks to Glenn MacLean and Carmel Campbell for their support during Kaye’s later years. A special thanks to the staff at Wentworth Court, Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their care of Kaye.
Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A joint visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. for both Kaye and her sister, Willena MacQuarrie all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Jim Oliver officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home with burial to follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer Society Nova Scotia.
