Obituary of Olive Theresa Rosko

It is with great sadness that we the family of Olive Theresa Rosko, announce her passing in the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a brief illness. Olive passed away very peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Born in Big Bras d’Or, February 13, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Bridget (Gilligan) Douglas and was a long-time member of St. John’s United Church. A quiet, private person, Olive was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother in-law, aunt and sister. She resided with her daughter Brenda for the past 28 years where she adored spending time with her granddaughter Beth, and doting on her two cats, Baxter and Buffy. Olive is survived by her daughters Brenda (Bobby) Jackson, Glace Bay and Sandra Hutchison, Sydney; granddaughters Amanda (Adam) MacNeil, Edmonton, Kim (Paul) Oliveira, Toronto and Beth Jackson, Glace Bay; great-grandchildren Bhreagh, Caleb and Joshua MacNeil and Anderson Oliveira. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters Mary Ash (Max deceased), Sydney, Shelia Miller, Big Bras d’Or, Nancy Trenholm (Junior deceased), Antigonish, Judy MacLeod (Daniel), Big Bras d’Or; brothers Claude (Betty), Big Bras d’Or and Brian (Ann deceased), North Sydney. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband Sam; grandson Mark Ross Jackson; brother John and son in-law Donald Hutchison. In honouring her wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Carol Gillard will be held 11am, Friday, February 3, 2017 and will be immediately followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Interment will be at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Big Bras d’Or Family flowers only; memorial donations in Olive’s memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
