Obituary of Michael Aubrey "Babe" Waidson, Reserve Mines
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Michael Aubrey “Babe” Waidson, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Dad died peacefully after a short time at The Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was 94 years old.
He was born in Gardiner Mines and was the son of the late Harold and Sadie (O’Brien) Waidson.
He is survived by Noreen, his wife of 64 years; sons Mark (Brenda) of Glace Bay, Roger (Lisa) of Cochrane, Alta, Jim (Jessica) of Moose Jaw, Sk, daughter Janice (Brad) of Kingston, NS and his sister Margie (Joe) of New York; he was also a proud Granddad to eight loving grandchildren—Natasha, Ashley (his best companion and support in the last few years), Eric, Bryn, Hannah, Leah, Zachary and Liam and two great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Parker.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Mildred (Waidson) Farrow; his brother Joseph; his sister Mabel in infancy; and his great-granddaughter Rowan in infancy.
He was an automotive mechanic by trade and worked for Ford dealerships in Sydney for 35 years until his retirement. He was also an accomplished hobbyist woodworker who enjoyed making furniture and other items. Aside from spending time with his family, Dad loved his workshop and was always making jigs and projects for his friends and family.
Dad also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising hunting beagles. He was a founding member of the Airway Beagle Club.
As they were together until the end, Mom and Dad decided a joint Celebration of Life will take place when the time comes. At that time, interment will take place in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines.
The family also wants to give a heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff of Seaview Manor in Glace Bay for the wonderful care dad received during his time there. You made a difficult situation so much easier and we are forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
