Obituary of James Barton "Jimmy" MacVicar, Donkin

My brother, Jimmy MacVicar, age 72 formerly of Donkin, passed away at approx. 2:30 am on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 in Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.

Jimmy leaves behind his mom, Edith (Malin) MacVicar at the Northside Guest Home, siblings, Margie (Cas), Port Morien, Donnie (Carole), Stoney Creek, Kevin (Emilie), Timmins, ON, and Karen, Sydney, niece, Becki (Ed), Port Morien, nephew, Nick (Jen), Smithville, ON., great nieces and nephews, Alex (Sarah), Matty, Kyle, Willow, Tristan, great-great nieces, Amelia and Athena and many cousins.

Jimmy was a lover of animals and looked after and loved many in his lifetime. He was a big hockey fan in his day and loved the Boston Bruins and wore his jersey with pride.

Jimmy was a kind and loving soul and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I would like to thank my husband, Cas for his support through the years in helping to care for Jimmy as well as my children, Becki and Nick and their partners Jen and Ed, Bonnie and Ken for their ongoing love and support.

Jim helped my grandchildren in Ontario on line Sunday night to decorate their Christmas tree, truly memorable. To my brothers, thank you for your visits and phone calls over the years. Jimmy was loved by everyone he met, always willing to make you a cup of tea at home and have a chat. He loved having company and someone to talk to.

Thank you to the Mira Bay family who loved Jim and took the best care of him, going above and beyond the past three years. Everyone has a Jimmy story.

Thank you also to the staff of 1B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, where Jimmy spent three years before finding his home in Mira Bay (Harbourstone), you are all angels on earth.

Thank you to Arty Baxter, his life long friend, they were both a handful and partners in getting into trouble when they were young.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. We will not be having a funeral at this time. A celebration of life for Jimmy will be held on his birthday, July 5th, I will be in touch.

Jimmy will be interred in St. Luke’s United Cemetery, Donkin with his dad, Donald MacVicar- His best friend.

On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
