Obituary of Eric Benjamin Simms, Glace Bay

We the family of Eric B. Simms, age 54 of Glace Bay are saddened to announce his passing on Monday, December 23^rd, 2024 at the CBRH, Sydney in Palliative Care with his family by his side.

Eric lobster fished in his younger years and then went to Louisbourg on the draggers for National Sea.

Fishing was Eric’s passion; he missed fishing on the boats till the end. He loved all types of fishing, ice fishing, fishing on a little boat or from the shore.

Eric was a regular at Tim’s, he loved to sit with his buddies and chat and have his medium 4X4 coffee. But one thing he enjoyed even more was going for drives and coffee with his good friend, Art.

Eric will be missed so much by his wife, Catherine McGrath, his pride and joy were his 3 boys, Eric (Carrie), Patrick (Ashley), Keagan (Jade), his 8 grandchildren who always put a smile on his face, Kayden, Sophia, John, Anakin, Everly, Zachary, Meadow, Hartlen and longtime friend, Jimmy Snook, also the Mills family; Sylvia, Chrissie and Betty.

Also surviving are his siblings, Vera (Daniel), Darlene (Otto), Gordie and Helen, in-laws, Mary-Ann (Mark), Libby (Juder), Jackie (Peter), Joanne (Mike) and many nieces and nephews.

Eric was predeceased by his parents, Gord and Edie Simms and his father- in-law, Doe McGrath.

Eric’s family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses, especially 3-West at the Glace Bay General Hospital who went above and beyond for Eric, you showed him kindness, compassion and support, we are so thankful, we don’t have enough words to describe your loving care. To Palliative Care at Cape Breton Regional, you are amazing. Thank you to all who helped Eric and took care of him these last 7 months.

There will be no services at this time. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
