Although you were lucky to have her for so long, I know forever would never be long enough. I hope the wonderful memories you have of your Mom help ease your pain of this great loss. Dear Carol, Tyrone, Rocky and families We had fully expected to attend Mellie's funeral this morning but lots of blowing snow and slippery road here in Boularderie have thrown a wrench into our plans. We so wish we could be there to tell you what your mother meant to us. As young marrieds moving into the Winnifred Square apartment, your parents were so welcoming and obliging. Often on summer evenings Mellie and I would chat on the step while Sonny did his gardening and Fraser was off to militia. Once Bruce was born, Mellie offered sound advice and a sympathetic ear regarding child raising. We were there during the infamous '74 October wind storm when a neighbour's tree blew down in the yard. I think it hit your back porch. Wasn't Sonny wild that day! Mellie just laughed. Everyone in our extended family has heard about the day she saved my baby from choking. I ran down the apartment stairs with Bruce upside down, a piece of teething biscuit lodged in his throat, and dashed into Mellie's, screaming. She calmly took him, hooked her pinky finger in his mouth and scooped the cookie out. Fraser and I wouldn't have our wonderful son, our lovely daughter-in-law, and our two precious granddaughters if it hadn't been for Mellie. She was always happy to see us and to catch up on family news. When we saw her at Sonny's funeral, we didn't expect her to live as long and as well as she did, but she surprised everyone. When reminded of Mellie, we always said "we must drop in and visit her", but good intentions don't always lead to actions. We regret this. Know that we are thinking of you all with sympathy and fondness, and that, in our family, Mellie will be remembered and cherished. Sincerely, Fraser, Jane and family.

Dear Carol, Tyrone and Rocky please accept my heartfelt condolences on your mom's passing. I have such good memories of sitting at the kitchen table while your mom was cooking, cleaning or making tea and always with a smile on her face. Aunt Mellie and Uncle Sonny's home was where I wanted to be when we would come to Glace Bay. It is tough being so far from everyone however please know that if I was there I would be giving you all a big hug and saying that she was an amazing lady. Even though my girls were to young to remember they were sad to hear of her passing and enjoyed the stories I shared with them about going to your mom and dad's. I love you Aunt Mellie and will never forget you. Love to all, Liz, Brittany and Ashley
