Obituary of Ronnie McNeil

Ronald "Ronnie" McNeil 75, Glace Bay It is with great sadness, that we, the family announce the passing of Ronnie McNeil, age 75 after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Bernard and Edith (Bentley) McNeil. Ronnie was employed at the Devco Machine Shop for over 25 years. He was also a volunteer member of the Glace Bay Fire Department for 25 years. Ronnie was a very faithful member of St. John’s Church in No. 2; and at one time was a member of the men’s club. He enjoyed going for walks and bird watching. But mostly, Ronnie will be remembered as a very loving and compassionate family man. He always looked for the good in people. Ronnie is survived by his best friend and companion, his wife, Louise (McLean) McNeil, two daughters, Paula (James) Edwards, Carolyn MacDonald (Andrew), one son, Ronald "R.J." (Karen), one sister, Barbara MacNeil (Anthony "B"), one brother, Kevin McNeil, sister in law, Marilyn Wheeliker, mother in law, Gennie McLean, in laws, nieces, nephews, eight grandchildren, Travis McNeil, whom he raised as a son, Justin, Jeff, Andrea MacLeod, Morgan, Cameron McNeil, Victoria, Scott Lewis and two great grandchildren, Rylan and Karis MacLeod. Besides his parents, Ronnie was predeceased by his brother, George Wheeliker, father in law, Tom McLean, son in law, Scott Lewis and his sister in law, Beverly McNeil. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception at the Glace Bay Fire Hall. Following the funeral mass, Ronnie will be cremated and interred in St. John’s Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Ronnie may be made to the Cancer Centre or Palliative Care at the CBRH, Sydney.
