Obituary of Leo Rose, New Waterford

Leo Rose New Waterford It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather Leo Rose, 87, on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Regional Hospital. Leo worked as a coal miner for 38 years, retiring in 1983. Leo served as a paratrooper in the Korean War with the Royal Canadian Regiment. He was honoured to have travelled to Korea for the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice in 2013 with his friend, Ozzie Landry. He was a proud member of the Army, Navy and Air Force unit 217, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 and the Cape Breton Naval Veterans Association. Leo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Madeline Oliver (Marge), his children, David (Wanda), Scotchtown; Kenny (Donna), Lingan; Sheila (Francis), Ottawa; Robert (Michelle), New Waterford and Colleen, River Ryan. He is survived by five grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Ashley, Emma and Madeline and four great grandchildren Jasmine, Jackson, Adam and Claire. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by his father, David and mother, Catherine (MacLellan) Rose; brothers, Bernie and Eddie and his precious grandson, Michael. Leo was a kind and generous soul who had a love for the Blue Jays and Christmas time; when he played Santa Claus for many children. He was an avid reader and enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles with his beloved family members. He loved animals, especially his cat Moully. He will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 28 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford from 5-9 p.m. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday March 29 at 2 p.m. at St. Leonard Parish, 3180 Mount Carmel Ave., New Waterford, officiated by Father Ray Huntley. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford. Reception to follow at Army, Navy and Air Force unit 217, 495 Smith St., New Waterford.
