Obituary of John Nelson Boutilier,River Ryan/Glace Bay

JOHN “BUBBY” BOUTILIER River Ryan / Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of John (Bubby) Boutilier, age 69 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on March 25, 2017 after a short illness. Born in Glace Bay in 1947, he was the son of the late William O. and Ethel Mae (Wareham) Boutilier. Best known as Bubby, he was an avid Toronto Blue Jay and Leafs fan. A hard worker, he spent many years working as a lumberjack, a fish plant worker, etc. He was famous for his skills as a back yard mechanic, and a general handy man – jack of all trades. He enjoyed years of bowling and is well known at Branch 3 Legion where he was a regular Saturday Night visitor. A great family man, he enjoyed supporting his grandchildren`s practices and games of Hockey and Body Building and Baseball. He was proud of his family and loved them dearly. One of his highlights was when his grandson played in the Little League World series and he loved attending the grandchildren`s games and tournaments over the years. He enjoyed family evenings around a campfire and loved country music. He is survived by his partner, Marie McPhee, and his four children, John “Bubby, Jr.” and Natalie, Glace Bay, daughters Evelyn (Dennis) Doucette, Glace Bay, Linda (Jimmy MacGillivary) Reserve Mines and Cecilia (Aaron MacKay), Dominion. Bubby will be sadly missed by his brother, Greg (Donelda) of Glace Bay, and sisters; Linda (Dan), Ontario and Elsie Mindach of Glace Bay. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Raechelle, Nathan, Joshua, Kevin, Christina, Hannah, Jonathan, Brayden and his three great-grandchildren, Connor, Tyler and Kinsley. Besides his parents, Bubby was predeceased by brothers, William (Sonny), Donnie, Gordon (Allie), Eddie and step brother Kevin, sister, Lois and by his special grandson, Brent. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Interment in St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery, Glace Bay. Pastor David Sawler officiating.
