Obituary of Marion "Sis" Gallant, Reserve Mines

Marion “Sis” (White) Gallant Reserve Mines November 21, 1929 to April 3, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sis, age 87 on Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Sis was surrounded by her loving family during this time. Sis was born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Maude (MacKinnon) White. Sis was a woman who enjoyed life to the fullest with a mindset well beyond her years. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Sis knew she was a kind and generous women. Sis had a long career with Jacobson’s Ladies Wear as a wedding dress buyer. This career brought joy to Sis in many ways by travelling to fashion shows; but more importantly, Sis took great pride and joy in seeing many brides look and feel beautiful on their special day. Sis enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards and making weekly trips to the casino with longtime friend, Hilda Shaw and her daughter, Ann "Nushie". Sis was survived and resided with her nephew, Bill (JoAnn) White and their children Aaron (Kim) and Korri who she helped raise as her own. Sis was also survived by her brother’s children, Shannon, Darin, Krista (MacLean), Dale, Glenn, Darrell, Janet (MacPherson) and their families. Besides her parents, Sis was predeceased by her husband, Francis “Francie”, brothers, James "Bootie", Melvin White, nephew, Cordell White and niece, Linda Shaw. Special thanks to Dr. Ley, Dr. McNeil, the palliative care team, staff on 3 East and the ER at the Glace Bay General Hospital for providing such amazing, compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. Interment in MacLeod’s Crossing Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
