Obituary of Ella Alexis McIntrye, Dominion

It is with heavy hearts, we the family announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. After a long courageous battle with cancer, Lexie, age 77 passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with her loving husband and family at her side on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Born in Glace Bay and raised in New Aberdeen, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Sadie (MacDougall) Petrie. She was a long-time resident of Dominion and a faithful member of both the former St. Eugene’s Church and presently Immaculate Conception Church. Lexie will be fondly remembered for all the loving and caring moments spent with her husband, children, and extended family. Her true blessing was when she finally became a grandmother to Brooklyn; whom she truly enjoyed all of her visits and their times spent together. Lexie worked in housekeeping for over 50 years; beginning at St. Joseph’s and the Glace Bay Community Hospitals and for 28 years at Seaview Manor until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed bingo, bowling and watching curling and figure skating on TV. Her family was her life and she was loved by all. Lexie will also be remembered as a founding member of the Dominion Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary. Lexie will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 57 years James “Jimmy”; daughter Janet; sons Bernie and Glenn (Vanessa - whom she thought of as her own daughter) and her precious granddaughter Brooklyn. She will also be sadly missed by her sister Mona (Jack) Burgess; brothers Ronnie, Ontario and Allie, Alberta; brothers in-law; sisters in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her; a brother Jimmy Petrie and sisters Diane Blackmore, Sheila Stewart and Phemie Bryden Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:30am – 12:30 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Daniel Boudreau will follow at 1pm ,Saturday April 8, 2017 in Immaculate Conception Church, Glace Bay. Following the mass all are invited to join the family at a reception in the Church Hall.
