Dear Brenda and Family:

My deepest sympathies to all the Porters, especially Brenda, Ryan, Tara, and Clint, as well as Walter's extended family and all his many friends. Walter was a fixture in my adolescence, and a solid presence among our friends. He was thoughtful, sincere and principled, with a big heart and a generous sense of humour. Walter was also one of a kind: he was fiercely intelligent and had all sorts of esoteric knowledge to share. He possessed one of the most formidable vocabularies I've ever encountered, and helped spur my interest in language and literature when I was young, something that continues to hold my attention to this day. I will miss him a lot. He was a good and kind man who never failed to make people laugh, and the world is a lesser place without him. All my love, Sean
