Obituary of Robert "Bobby" Jewells, Port Morien/ Glace Bay
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert Jewells, age 76, on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Glace Bay and a former resident of Port Morien, he was the eldest son of Robert Harold and Susan (MacDonald) Jewells.
Robert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He retired from Devco Machine Shop after many years of service. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading and camping. His love for camping was passed on to his children; even during his illness he enjoyed life and always found a way to have a good time.
Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eileen (Lind), his daughter, Roberta (Glen) Parsons, his son, Raymond (Judith) Jewells, daughter-in-law, Tanya Jewells, grandchildren, Ryan (Carrie), Rebecca Parsons, Ben and Amanda Jewells. Bobby will also be sadly missed by his devoted pet dog, Raven.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he kept in touch with each of them on a daily basis.
Also surviving are brothers, Errol, Terry (Jean), Lawrence (Sandra), sisters, Kathleen, Annette, Mary (Allan) Boettcher, sister-in-law, Joan Jewells and many extended family members.
Besides his parents, Bobby was predeceased by his son, William Edward “Billy” Jewells, brother’s, Matthew, Kenneth, Lewis, sister-in-law, Linda Jewells, mother in law, Jean (Leonard) Lind MacLean and step father in law, Robert MacLean.
Visitation is Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment is in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
