It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ella Woodland, 63, on May 14, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ella (Johnston) MacKinnon.

Ella was a member of St. Leonard’s Church. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Ella enjoyed playing bingo and going to her summer home in Little River, where she loved going to the beach. She was proud to volunteer with the Brownies and Girl Guides.

Ella is survived by her husband, Marshall ‘Red” Woodland; daughter, Sheri (David) Woodland –Amerson, North Carolina; sons, Marshall, Joey (Shannon), both of New Waterford; brother, Neil (Tricia) MacKinnon, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Cody Brenna, Lucas Woodland, William Amerson, Jacob Amerson, Aubrie Woodland. Ella is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 1p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford., with Fr. Ray Huntley  officiating. A luncheon will follow in the funeral home.

Donations in Ella’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
