Obituary of Clare Larade
We regret to announce the passing of Clare Larade, age 82 of Sydney on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Simmie and Nora (Cathcart) Larade.
Clare retired from Transport Canada as a firefighter at Sydney Airport. He was owner/operator of Simeon’s Restaurant, first in New Waterford and presently in Sydney. In his early years, Clare played basketball with the Strands and baseball with the Giants, both teams are hall of fame inductees. Clare performed a lot of behind the scenes work in organizing and setting up these teams along with fundraising for both; he was also a former member of the New Waterford Rotary Club. Clare was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was also a founding member of the New Waterford Coal Dust Days Committee since its inception many years ago.
Clare was an animal lover and he especially loved his family cats, Sasha and Lily. He fed many strays and found homes for a lot of them over the years. Clare will be greatly missed by Simeon’s Staff, many of whom have been with him since opening, whose loyalty he very much appreciated.
Clare is survived by his wife, Sharon (MacDonald) Larade, two sons, Howard (Sandra), Darren (Christine), two daughters, Cindy Polegato (Robert), Carol Lee Larade (Rodney) and their mother, Florine.
He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Haleigh, Kyle, Kendall, Aidan, Angelina, Jillian, Jennifer, Lauren, three brothers, Joe, Greg, Bob Larade and his sister in law, Colleen MacDonald with whom he had a special friendship.
Besides his parents, Clare was predeceased by his sister, Helen MacLeod.
