Obituary of Peter Cooke, Gardiner Mines

 

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Peter Cooke, age 79, announce his sudden passing on July 4, 2017 at New Waterford Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, September 26, 1937, he was the son of the late Alexander and Vange (MacLean) Cooke.

Peter was a miner most of his life having worked in 18, 26 and Lingan collieries. He was a great father and a hard working man. Peter had a passion for classic cars, especially Chevs. He spent many hours with his children restoring his vehicles to pristine condition. Peter loved animals and always had his dog by his side.

Peter will be sadly missed by his loving wife Vivian; sons, Robert, Glen, Aaron (Amanda) and daughter Maria (Joshua) ; four grandchildren, Miranda, Ryan, Keagan and Ethan.

He is survived by sisters, Sandra and Eileen and brothers, Robert (Bonnie) and Frank (Margaret). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by brothers, Billy and Jimmy and sister, Pat.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines.
