Obituary of Violet Campbell, Glace Bay
Mrs. Violet Campbell, age 95, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Clara (Sheinck) Nightingale.
Violet was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was described as a quiet lady who strove for perfection in all her tasks in life. Violet enjoyed crocheting, bingo, watching game shows, reading, doing crossword puzzles and being a number 1 fan of Dancing with the Stars. A good cup of tea and a sweet was a great source of enjoyment for Violet. She was the happiest when surrounded by her family. She loved animals especially cats and she was an avid Montreal Canadians fan.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Young (Billy), Glace Bay; a son, Michael (Doreen) Campbell, Reserve Mines; five grandchildren, Terry, Cathy (Brent), Ricky (Wanda), Michelle (Brent) and Glen (Tanya); ten great grandchildren, Shaylie, Kiauna, George Thomas, Rachel, Jarrid, Kayla, Erica, Andrea, T.J. and Ricky, and five great-great grandchildren, Abigail, Alivia, Jaxon, Baby Ricky and Cole. Violet is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet was predeceased by her husband, Michael Campbell; six brothers; three sisters, and a son-in-law, Art Young.
Visitation is Thursday, September 21 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Wallace Road.
