It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Stella ‘Freda’ Young, age 92, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Wednesday,October 11, 2017.

Born in Souis, P.E.I, she was the daughter of the late Hilda LaVie. Freda was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, New Waterford. In her earlier years, Freda worked at General Instruments and at the Children's Training Centre in Sydney. She also worked as a house keeper. Freda was an avid dart player and a member of the Pensioner’s Club in New Waterford. She enjoyed baking, cooking, playing bingo and loved to watch her afternoon soaps.

Freda is survived by her son, Joe Young, New Waterford, daughter, Mary Winnifred (Gary) Rudderham, Ontario; sister, Gail Murphy, Halifax; grandchildren, Craig (Karen) Young, Jill (Kolin) Lindstedt, Lee Ann (Matthew) Donovan, June (Ed) Wright, Cindy Rudderham, Lewis (Ana) Rudderham, great grandchildren,Coral, Alaya Lindstedt,Taylor MacGillivray, Eva Rudderham, Rebecca, Carter Donovan, Catherine, Carley Wright, Hunter York MacIsaac and by her close friends, Wilena, Tony, Lee Ann, Curtis,Johnny, Timothy and Evelyn.

Besides her mother, Freda was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Alexander Young; daughter, Mary Winnifred in infancy,sister, Dolly (Chester) MacIntyre,grandchild,Ryan and daughter - in - law,Sandy Young.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 16, 2017 from 6-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home,380 Smith Street,New Waterford. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11a.m in All Saints Anglican Church, McGibbon Street, New Waterford.

All are invited to join the family for a reception at All Saints Anglican Hall, McGibbon Street, New Waterford. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

As an expression of sympathy for Freda, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
