Obituary of Phyllis Irene Lamey, New Victoria
Phyllis Irene Lamey
New Victoria
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our devoted mother, Phyllis Irene (Muise) Lamey, 62 of New Victoria at the Halifax Infirmary on October 27th, 2017.
Born April 12 1955, she was the third eldest daughter to the late James “Squibby” and Helen (Grant) Muise.
Phyllis graduated from the Nova Scotia’s Teachers College in 1976. She was a dedicated school teacher who went on to achieve her Masters of Education and taught for many years. As teachers often do, Phyllis impacted the lives of many of her students as was evident when their paths crossed later in life.
Phyllis was known for her generosity and her witty sense of humour. Mom was funny. She could make anyone laugh with a perfectly timed joke or clever comment. Phyllis loved to travel and had a great sense of adventure. One of our fondest memories is of a family vacation she planned and surprised us with.
She had many talents in life including being a skilled seamstress, an avid shopper and devoted friend. Anyone who knew her knows that her family was her greatest pride. She was an amazing wife, mother and sister.
After more than a decade of longing, pressuring, bribing even begging for a grandchild, she finally became a grandmother to Liam who was her pride and joy.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred “Joe” Lamey, her parents, sister, Elizabeth Muise and Wilson.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Mark (Gillian), Dr. Alicia Lamey, and James (Lauren), her grandson, Liam, her siblings, Patricia (Andy) Baker, Agnes Muise, Johnny (Anita), Mary (Phil) Lynch, Joan (Peter) Kaltsunas, Helen Muise (Stuart), Annette (Kevin) Campbell, Robert (Jill), Johann Muise, Jimmy, many nieces and nephews, and three brothers in-law, Paul (Annette) Lamey, John Lamey and Sheldon Lamey. She will also be greatly missed by lifelong friends, Cathy MacVarish, Debbie Hughes, Lana Huntley and Audrey Boudreau.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 1st , 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery , New Victoria.
All are invited to join the family for a reception at St Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
