I was incredibly saddened and very surprised to just recently learn of Anita's passing. She was a co-worker at the City of Calgary for many years.. and she was a good friend. Anita was one of the most generous, kindest and caring people I have known. I had the good fortune to be able to come and stay for a week with her and her Mom Marg, in Glace Bay.. some years back.. and the two of them helped me to reconnect with the family that my Mom and Dad and I lived with during WW11, when my father was in the Navy and posted to Sydney. We lived out on Rudderham Road, near the Navy Base (now Sydport) until the end of the War, when we returned to Calgary. It was no coincidence that I was drawn to Anita when we both worked together in the Bowmont office.. and I was again on the receiving end of that wonderful "down home" Maritime hospitality and we became friends.. Some of us in Calgary are planning to have a Celebration of Anita's life here in Calgary, to remember her.. on December 28th. I am sure her loss will be felt by her many friends in Calgary and in the Social Work communities in Calgary and in Halifax.. May she Rest in Peace..

Our deepest sympathies to the Graham family on the death of Anita.
We were very good friends at St. John's School, spending lots of
time at her kitchen table doing homework, munching on goodies,
talking and laughing about events of our day and dreaming about
what our lives will be like when we are finally "all grown up". She
will be missed by everyone who knew her. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time. God bless you.

I am very sad to hear of Anita's passing. Anita was a very kind person, she did a great deal to go out of her way to help myself and Jeff's friends be successful back in the summer of 95. She welcomed a few of us up to Calgary during that summer and helped each one of us get jobs. She welcomed us into her home and took very good care of us while we got settled. To this day I am very grateful for her kindness and positive attitude. She will always have a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.

I was very sad to hear about Anita’s passing. I worked with her periodically during my years at The East Coast Forensic Hospital and always admired her spirit and energy. In situations when I and others automatically tended to conform, Anita’s ability to speak up and challenge the status quo in order
to make life easier for her clients and colleagues was
admirable and much appreciated. Above all, I will remember Anita for that wonderful, hearty laughter that was contagious, down-to-earth, and warmed the hearts of those around her. I’m very sorry to hear she passed away at such a young age. My condolences to all her family and close friends.

Anita and I met 35 years ago in Calgary and have remained friends since. We both hold Master degrees in Social Work with common interests in prevention, justice issues and corrections. By 1989, we found ourselves employed by the City of Calgary - Anita in the Before and After School Age Program and me as a Youth Probation Officer.
Anita had a wry sense of humour, a dollop of irreverence and a twinkle in her eye. She fought for the underdog and found ways to address inequalities that were effective but not always "by the book".
Family and Friends were so important to Anita. She was a second "Mom" to her nieces and nephews and provided much guidance and help to them. Hospitality was her calling and she would happily whip up a veritable feast in no time at all. Anita was so proud of being from Cape Breton - she loved her island. I'll miss our visits, her stories, her wonderful sense of humour and her sparkle. In short, I'll really miss Anita.

I'm so sorry to hear of Anita's passing. My deepest sympathy to her family. I worked with Anita for several years in the Mental Health Program. She was so compassionate, great with our patients and her co-workers. Every work function she would always be the first to bring in some of her famous homemade goodies. She had a feisty spirit and a laugh that can never be forgotten. She will be missed.

My sincere condolences. I will share a memory I have of "Nita", I remember when she lived in Calgary at Joe and Leone on Cedarille Drive and she picked me up on Cedarille Way to go see a movie. I think it was a Toyota Celica, and I was so excited and it made me happy that she wanted to take just me, I actually don't know if the other kids were busy. Anita made me feel special that day. That is what I thought of Anita, special. Love Lisa

I was very saddened to hear of Anita's passing last week. I worked with her for several years in Halifax in the mental health system and she always showed great care, goodwill and resourcefulness in her engagement with her clients. She was always something of a rebel, too, which brought some great feisty energy to our system. Always generous with her colleagues, too. She has been greatly missed in the workplace and I extend my sympathies to her family.

To The Graham Family,
My deepest sympathy on the recent passing of Anita. Anita will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and sense of humor. Anita's door was always open to the girls from Cape Breton and others who lived on 4th Lane A at St.FXU. We all shared in the regular arrival of treats from Glace Bay. I met Anita a few times in Halifax after graduation and the conversation always turned to how others were doing. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
