Obituary of Bernard Osborne

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Bernard Osborne on Feb. 27, 2016. Born in Glace Bay on March 14, 1939, he was the son of the late Patrick and Lucy (Kelly) Osborne. Joe was the second youngest of eight children, and is survived by his sister, Carmella of Glace Bay and brother, Fabian of Ontario; nieces, Theresa (Richard), Rose (Lloyd) and Marie (Danny); nephews, Fabian (Melissa), Jim (Leslie) and John; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Theresa; brothers, Pat, Shannon, Allie and Leroy; as well as his grandniece, Const. Tara Morgan. Joe will be missed by all of his family, especially his niece, Theresa (Richard), with whom he resided, as well as his grandnephew, Kevin and niece, Marie, whom he thought the world of. Joe was a devout Catholic and a member of the former parish of St. John the Baptist, Glace Bay. In his earlier years, he enjoyed swimming, skating and walking — he was always on the go. In his later years, he enjoyed reading, watching his favourite TV shows, as well as family functions, and always looked forward to afternoon visits with his nephew John (Fox). Joe was employed as a miner with the Cape Breton Development Corporation until his retirement in 1992. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Boutilier and Debbie Roach, NP, for the excellent care and compassion. Visitation will be held at VJ McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, on Thursday March 3 at 1 p.m. with funeral service to follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery at a later date.
