To the family of Martin Schwartz; Please accept my sincere condolences to you on the loss of your loved one. Although I didn't know him personally, both Sam and Dan attended St F.X. univ while I was there in the late 60's. Reports from his students were all favourable of him in that he had a way to make math understandable to them and if there was a problem, he would find a way to make it easier to fathom. Again please know that you are in my thoughts and be comforted in the knowledge that he was well revered in the community.

Mr Schwartz was an incredible educator. He was my teacher in grade 11/12 Chemistry and always taught us a year ahead of the curriculum. You’d think that would be a challenge but he made it so much fun that, as students, we did not even understand how much we were learning. When I speak to my colleagues now about the level of education I received in New Waterford NS, it is hard for people to understand the talent level that existed in our little neck of the woods - it reallly was incredible with Me Schwartz, Karl Kicks, Mike Roberts, and others....I feel very fortunate to have come in contact with such brilliance in my learning years. Thank you Martin...hope we meet again someday.

Dear Sam and family members,
Please accept our deepest sympathy on your father’s recent passing. My memories of Martin (and Ida) go back to the early days of BEC when my husband Bryden was principal. Bryden admired and respected them greatly, and Martin’s contribution and dedication to the science department were well known at BEC and beyond. To sum it up, Bryden loved your dad. I also greatly admired his very “giving” spirit after retirement and the young people in New Waterford benefited from his wisdom and knowledge. John wishes to send personal condolences to Sam.
God’s blessings on your family.
Sincerely,

Your father was a very dear friend of my whole family - my parents Len and Gladys Durdle, my siblings Donna (Durdle) Coady - in which he was very fond of; Alan Durdle, Lorna Durdle, Eva (Durdle) Doell, my deceased brother that lived only a short time to age 29 years, who had Schizophrenia - George Durdle and myself, Rhona Jean (Durdle) Reynen. I studied sciences all the way through with Martin during my high school years at Breton Education Center in New Waterford. He was a gentle, kind, intelligent and very loving man with a strong faith in Jesus (who knew I shared his faith as well). He accompanied me and Marsha MacEachern to a National Science Fair in British Columbia when I was 12 or thirteen -around 1977 and he was so sweet that he thought because this was thew first time away from our parents, he gently kissed and hugged us both before we went to our rooms for nighttime. I have always hels him in very high regard and I know the worls has lost one of the most loving oersons I ever had the privledge to know. My deepest sympathy to his family and many friends. May God Bless you all in this very difficult time. I know he is in heaven and up there shining with other angels watching over you. Warmly, Rhona Jean (Durdle) Reynen

I am a former student of Martin. But we seen each other as much more. Martin played more of a father/grandfather role in my life. Martin was a very very kind man. He means the world to me. I use to go visit him every time I was in Halifax. Though it was nothing compared to getting to see him every Thursday for piano and singing. He also conducted our Jr. Choir at church. I was his first piano student. I will never forget the day he promised to teach me. He kept his word and had me and my brother and sister over for lessons every week. The class grew from there and we welcomed new students into our class. Though we didn't always meet at the same time Martin made sure we were together for birthdays. He always had birthday parties for all his piano students. I will forever be lost without you Martin. I love you and miss you so much

It's with great sadness that I reflect on the passing of Uncle Schwartz,. A family relationship that spanned for three generations. I remember of spending Sundays at the Schwartz home in Ethiopia after church where he would play the piano and my mother the violin. As children we would gather around and sing songs and hymns. This as a weekly ritual we followed every Sunday.
The trips we took and the camping expeditions in Ethiopia were rich in experience on both in the natural and educational levels. Uncle was a great educator and invested in my family's future here in Canada, for that I am truly grateful.
As a Christian he exemplified great strength and courage and encouraged others during difficult times. He had time to listen ,offer educational and spiritual advice.Uncle motivated me during my final year at University. He also carried the same passion and celebrated my children's school projects and family milestones.
As a man of multi talents and great generosity, uncle I will miss you and always will remember your legacy. I honour and bless your memory.
God Bless,
Padma( Ruth)
