I know this may sound crazy but I met Bernie when I was in my thirties working at Lofood grocery store. I came running out to hug my aunt who I hadn't seen in quite some time and Bernie was standing between us & said oh I thought you were coming to hug me! & being the hugger that I am I said u can have one too & gave him a hug. And for some reason we continued the tradition whenever we ran into each other over the years. I could tell he was a really nice man. The second last time I saw him he told me about his wife dying & he was heart broken. I'm sorry he's gone I'll miss our hugs but I'm glad he's with her. So sorry to hear that Bernie passed away. My favourite Uncle for sure. I have so many fond memories of my childhood, the trips to River Bourgeois, the big rink he built, listening to the band of which he was a huge part (last living room performance I saw was in Glace Bay), and had forgotten about the Puppet Shows, a nice reminder. He will always be in my thoughts, he was such a neat guy, with a great laugh and a great smile. May he find peace, and our condolences to all.
