Obituary of Sharon 'Sandy' McGillivary Sweeney Power, New Waterford

It is with deep sorrow and sadness that I announce the sudden and unexpected passing of my mom, Sharon Eileen Power, at the age of 73, of New Waterford, Cape Bretpn, NS, on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at the Halifax Infirmary.

Born on March 10, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Bernadette McGillivary.

Throughout her younger years, she owned and operated her own hairdressing salon in New Waterford. She also helped run BiCentennial Amusements which provided pool tables, pinball machines, jukeboxes, etc. to local legions and other business establishments. She then ran a convenience store in Glace Bay in the 1990's called Sandy's Place' where she enjoyed serving the public and making new friends.

She will be extremely missed by her only son, Dwayne Power, and her little boy 'Fur Baby', Ben.

She is also survived by her sister, Jackie (Sweeney) O'Flaherty, River Ryan; brothers, George Sweeney Sr., Sydney, Bob Sweeney Sr. (Ann-Marie), New Waterford and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her mother, Bernadette, she was also predeceased by brother, Martin Sweeney Jr. (Lena), Gardiner Mines and Martin and Mildred Sweeney.

To honour Sharon's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service/mass. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA in her name.
