Obituary of Katherine 'Kay' Albertice Maroun
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of my Mom, Katherine 'Kay' Maroun, 95. Katherine peacefully passed away in her sleep after a long battle with vascular disease on May 10, 2016 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney.
Born in New Waterford on Christmas Eve, 1920, Katherine (nee Muir) was the daughter of the late Hugh and Georgina (McEachern) Muir. Katherine lived in Montreal for 45 years before moving back to New Waterford. She and her late husband Joseph Maroun loved to go out dancing with each other. She loved reading books and knitting. She was also very religious and loved to cook Lebanese food.
Katherine will be sadly missed by her daughter, Lorna (Dave) Feeney, New Brunswick; stepson, Gregg Maroun, New Brunswick; brother, Hugh Jr., Bras D’ Or and her sister, Gladys, Toronto; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Joseph, she was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Chapel; stepson, David Maroun; brother, Robert; sisters, Josephine and Muriel.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be celebrated at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10 a.m., with Fr. Albert Maroun officiating. A luncheon will follow at St. Leonard’s parish hall on Convent Street, New Waterford. A private burial will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford.
