It is with deep sadness, that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Daniel “Dan” James (Dew-Drop) MacLellan, age 88 of New Waterford on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
Born in Inverness County on October 27, 1929 he was the son of the Late Michael and Leona (Copan) MacLellan.
Dan was employed as a truck driver in the Ontario Region for many years. He was an avid hunter who loved hunting with his brother, Mickey. In his younger years, Dan coached Little League Baseball in Scotchtown. In his spare time he was found catching up on the latest baseball games. He was an avid Blue Jays fan.
Dan was a family man who always had a helping hand to lend. He was a kind and loving son, brother, uncle and friend to all. Dan had many special people in his life including his nephew whom he thought of as more of a son, Michael Murphy, his "Pet" as he called her, Bobby Chordis and his special sister Noel, whom all deeply loved and cared for him.
In Dan’s later years he would be found socializing with his many friends in his favorite spot at Tim Horton’s. Dan had the best sense of humor; always smiling and picking on his Tim’s Girls. Dan loved his many summer’s he spent at Sangaree Island.
For everyone who knew Dan, they realized his love for the holidays, always having his home decorated to the fullest. Dan was a member of St Joseph Church, New Victoria and later part of St Leonard’s church, New Waterford. Surviving are his sisters, Jean Murphy, Jeannie Crandell and Norma Ranson.
Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by brothers, Charlie, Mikey, Billy, Martin, Sandy and William in infancy; sisters, Noel, Leona, Mary and Mildred in infancy.
A special thank you to New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and Glace Bay Hospital. Also an extended thank you to the staff of Maple Hill Manor for the love and care they showed to Dan throughout his stay.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley is Saturday, 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue followed by interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Victoria. The reception will be held in St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street.
