Obituary of Carol L. 'Carolee' MacMaster Yorke

We, the family of Carolee MacMaster Yorke, regret to announce her passing on May 12, 2016. Born in New Waterford, she was the youngest daughter of the late Mary (Curry) and Duncan MacMaster. Carolee is survived by her loving and devoted husband of the past 44 years, Wayne; children; Mateo (Sarah) Halifax, and Natasha (David) Yarmouth; grandchildren; Braxton, Kesiah, and Mahalia; her sister Agatha Piper and brother Gordon (Pauline); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters; Katherine MacIsaac, Margaret MacLean, Perpetua MacEachern, Jean Cooke, and Edithanne Calder; brothers; Erwin, Elmer, Carl, Russell, Alonzo, and Duncan. Carolee graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital nursing school in Glace Bay in 1963. As a nurse, she worked in Texas, California, Massachusetts, Cape Breton, including at Devco's Community Health Service, and the Dominican Republic. Later, she completed her Bachelor of Social Work in Halifax and worked for Dr. Savage's Street Clinic in Dartmouth and Children's Aid in Cape Breton. She then continued her service managing the Yorke Hairport where she made many friends of regular customers at the shop. Carolee was a 40-year member of the CWL. She was a co-founder and board member of the Loaves of Fishes Society, and board member of the MacGillivray Guest Home. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Home, New Waterford. Funeral mass to celebrate Carolee's life will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Sydney, on Saturday, May 14th 2016 at 1:30pm with Father Bill Burke officiating and Father Norman MacPhee and Father Gerald Curry concelebrating. All are welcome to join the family at a reception following mass. Interment to follow at St. Agnes Parish cemetery in New Waterford. Family flowers only.
