Obituary of Mary Catherine Kennedy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Catherine Kennedy, age 95, on Friday, May 13th, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Glace Bay, Oct 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Hughie J. and Mary Catherine (MacNeil) MacDonald and was a longtime member of the former St. Michael's Church, River Ryan. Mary is survived by her loving children Michael, River Ryan; Patricia (Fred) Cormier, Halifax; John Hugh (Karen), L'Ardoise; Edward (Charlene), River Ryan; and Kevin (Jeanette), New Waterford; seven grand children, Michael Paul, Halifax; Stephen (Jessica), Calgary; Jacquelyn (Jason) O'Keefe, Halifax; Elizabeth, New Waterford; Shaun, Halifax; Kathleen and John, both of New Waterford; Sister in-law Elizabeth Cochrane and her family, Deep River, Ontario. Besides her parents,Mary was also predeceased by her husband Leo; sisters Margie and Catherine; brothers Hector, Micheal, and Stephen. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St. New Waterford. A funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley, in celebration of Mary's life will be held 10 am, Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in St. Leonard's Church. Mt. Carmel Ave., New Waterford. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan. Following the interment, all are invited to a reception at the KOC, Plummer Ave., New Waterford, to meet with Mary's family to continue celebrating her life. Memorial donations in Mary's memory, may be made to a charity of one's choice. At this time we would like to give special thanks to Dr. Bridgette Lowry and the staff at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, the County Homemakers, VON, and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, for their loving and compassionate care.
