Obituary of Annie Victoria MacNeil

It is with deep sympathy we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Annie Victoria (Tighe) MacNeil on May 15, 2016 at the Maple Hill Manor, formerly of New Victoria, at the age of 95. Annie was born on October 31, 1920, the first child of the late Thomas and Catherine (Turnbull) Tighe. Annie was the beloved wife of the late George 'Pink' MacNeil. Left to mourn are son, Jimmy MacNeil; daughter, Bonnie (Don) Pretty; grandchildren Irene Pretty-Monpetit, Kyle (Margaret Ann) MacNeil, Heidi MacNeil, Yorke MacNeil; great-grandchildren, Matthew Monpetit, Molly Muise, Adam Monpetit, Shae MacNeil, Teagan MacNeil; brother Wallace Tighe; many nieces and nephews. Annie was predeceased by her husband George 'Pink' MacNeil, son Maurice 'Tyke' MacNeil, grandson Ivan Pretty, brothers Joseph, Dempsey, Jackie, Mylie, Clarence and Obidia and Patrick in infancy; sisters Ramona (Frank) Fahey, Emily (Jimmy) Fahey and daughter-in-law Patricia MacNeil. In her earlier years Annie worked for the old New Waterford Hospital, Gaffins and the GI Plant. Annie was gifted with a big heart and big voice. She was a lady in the truest form of the word. Annie sang on CBC Radio every Saturday in her early years. She also attended and sang in many concerts across Cape Breton Island and met many friends along the way. There will be no visitation by Annie's request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held on Thursday, May 19, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Victoria with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, New Waterford.
