Obituary of Melvin Joseph MacKenzie

Melvin Joseph MacKenzie NewWaterford Melvin Joseph MacKenzie, age 69 of New Waterford passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday May 22,2016. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late James and Clara (Mahon) MacKenzie. He spent his life working for Devco Railway before retiring, but his main love was spending time with his family, especially his summers camping with them in Lake Ainsley. Melvin is survived by his sons, Bruce (Reneè), Curt (Claudette); grandchildren, Courtney, Kyle, Ally, Katelin, Hayley and Ethan; sister, Joan and nieces and nephews. Melvin was predeceased by brothers, Fr. Gerald MacKenzie, Bill and one brother in infancy and one sister, Nora (MacNeil). There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service for Melvin will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street New Waterford, on Thursday May 26th at 11am with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford. Donations in Melvin’s memory may be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
