Obituary of Jean Georgina McNamara

McNamara, Jean Georgina Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Jean Georgina McNamara, age 79. Mom passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Main -A-Dieu, she was the daughter of the late Isabell (Locke) Campbell. Georgina was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. She was a very active member of the parish’s sodality. She taught at the Gardiner School for several years before raising her children. Georgina enjoyed bowling, bingo, camping, cards, church, but most importantly; she loved being with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her children, Shawn, Pictou, Jerri (Billy) Burke, Cole Harbour, Arlene (Jerry) Walsh, Kevin (Paula), Glen and Melanie Sinclair (Cliff) all of Glace Bay. Georgina is also survived by 3 sisters and 11 brothers from the Campbell side of her family as well as 7 sisters and 2 brothers from the Lahey side of her family. She will be sadly missed by her 15 cherished grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her mother, Georgina was predeceased by 15 siblings from the Campbell and Lahey families and her great granddaughter. She is finally at rest with her loving husband of 53 years, Garfield McNamara. We would like to extend our appreciation to the doctors and nurses for the special care given to our mother; also a special thank you to Ruth and the Day Program who encouraged her and enhanced her quality of life. Visitation is Monday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church hall. Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Cremation to follow with interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Georgina’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
