Obituary of Mary Lillian Keats

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Lilly Keats, age 67. Lilly passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles Louis and Mary Isabell (Tutty) Boutilier and was a member of Christ Anglican Church, South Head. In her earlier years Lilly was employed with H. Hopkins Ltd., Glace Bay Fisheries and Ka’le Bay Fish processing plants. She was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55, Port Morien, Lilly was also a member of their dart league and truly enjoyed her times spent playing darts with her friends. Mom always wanted to be recognized and known for her tough facade, but truly, she was a very soft person. There wasn’t a mean bone in her body and her main priority was always her family. Mom will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 48 years Clarence Douglas "Dougie" Keats; daughters Marlane (Jim) Gibbs, Manitoba and Cheryl (A.J.) Hall, Glace Bay; sister Glenda (John) Dillon, Birch Grove; Lilly will also be greatly missed by her cherished grandchildren Caleigh Gibbs, J.D. Hall, Sinead Gibbs, Courtney Hall; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by a daughter Sharon in infancy; a sister Amy "Ted" (Edward) Wadden and another sister and brother both in infancy. In respecting Lilly’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 1 pm until the time of the service at 2 pm, all in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. A luncheon will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55, Port Morien immediately following the funeral service on Thursday. Interment will be at a later date.
