Obituary of Charles Alexander Gouthro
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Gouthro, age 77. Charles passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 4th, 2016, at the QE II Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Charles Frederick and Margaret Aquinas "Quinie" (Currie) Gouthro, and was a former member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay.
In his earlier years, Charles was a member of the Canadian Armed forces and lived for several years in Ontario. He returned to Glace Bay and worked for Devco; working as a miner and later as a welder, retiring from the central shop. Charles had a great sense of humor, was a very good natured person and enjoyed telling yarns of his younger years.
Charles will be sadly missed by his wife, June (MacDonald); stepsons Ronald, Wayne and Michael Campbell; sister Rosemary, Glace Bay; brother David (Melody), Thorold, ON; Also surviving are nieces and nephews Alfred, Robert, Deborah and special niece Lisa Gouthro, Thorold, ON; Charles will also be sadly missed by his best friend Calder MacDonald and his great neighbor Clinton MacLeod.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by a half-brother Alban "Allie".
In honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
A graveside service will be held at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay, at a later date.
Memorial donations in Charles’ memory may be made to the St. Anthony’s Cemetery Fund.
