Obituary of Helen Roach

Helen Veronica Roach, March 10, 1921–March 7, 2016, of Melville Lodge, Halifax, NS formerly of New Waterford passed away peacefully, of natural causes, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late John James and Mary Ann (McCormick) MacDonald. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Joseph A. Roach (Sept. 5, 2005); sister-in-law Mary Ellen Roach (Sept. 1, 2015); sisters Anne MacDonald, Mary E. (Mish) Power; brothers, Bernie MacDonald, Angus MacDonald and John MacDonald. After graduating from Sydney Academy and the New Waterford School of Nursing, Helen worked for several years, then married and settled in New Waterford where she raised a family. In earlier years, Helen was a member of the New Waterford Nurses Guild and the Children’s Aid Society. Helen is survived by daughters, Cecilia M. Roach, Mary E. (George) Lerikos; sons, Patrick Roach and John Roach; two granddaughters, Susanne and Michelle; four grandsons, David, Andrew, Alex and Michael; her sister, Cecilia (Gerard) Curry and niece, Patricia Power (Vern) MacDonald. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating.
