Dear Peggy and Family, Carol and I send our sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Ace. We know that he required a lot of love and support these past few years and that your all gave it unstintingly. His career and achievements demonstrate that intelligence, hard work and strength of character have their rewards: none greater than the love of his family and a very wide circle of friends. I am proud and happy to have been his friend for more than 50 years and I will miss him. There were more lies to be told and more whisky to be shared. We did not know that our last visit with you would be last call. Only when I read the lovely obituary you wrote did I realize that last Monday was Ace's 70th birthday, and that he didn't know it. Now his suffering is at an end and he is at rest. May you all find peace at his passing and joy in the fact of a life so generously shared and widely respected. Ace was one of a kind.

I sailed with Ace whilst working for Canadian Marine Drilling, in the Arctic (USA & Canada) & in the Far East out of Singapore. He as the Chief Engineer & I as the Chief Electrician. Never have I encountered a more honest & hard working person in my 30 years at sea. He never failed to live up to his responsibilities & was a great ship mate, absolutely the best. RIP. My friend.

I first met Ace in the Engine Room on the Explorer Two Drill Ship in 1981. I was new to Canada having emigrated from the UK to work in the Artic Regions of the Canadian Beaufort Sea. It was a pleasure to personally know and work along side with Ace. He was a king of a guy and a first class gentleman. Just writing about him brings the big man back just like it was yesterday. My condolences to his family.
